Endometriosis care in Florida: the facts that matter
The largest metro areas in Florida are Miami, Tampa and Orlando. Florida has not expanded Medicaid under the ACA, so adult eligibility is narrower (KFF). Specialist endometriosis care in Florida
Florida has several endometriosis programs named on their own institutions' sites. UF Health runs the UF Health Endometriosis Program, which its page says holds a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology designation, and UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville holds a Center of Excellence in Complex Endometriosis Care designation. Tampa General Hospital lists a Center of Excellence for Complex Endometriosis Care within its Women's Institute, and the University of Miami Health System offers a Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery service that lists endometriosis among the conditions it treats. The AAGL Complex Benign Gynecology Fellowship listing adds Cleveland Clinic Florida, Mayo Clinic Florida, and the Orlando VA Medical Center.
The distances between those cities are real. Gainesville is about 60 air miles from Jacksonville, 100 from Orlando, 120 from Tampa, and 300 from both Miami and Pensacola. The March of Dimes 2026 report classifies 16.4 percent of Florida counties as maternity care deserts, finds that 44.8 percent of counties have no birthing facility and that every rural county lacks one, and counts 150,000 women living more than 30 minutes from a hospital with labor and delivery services.
Florida has not adopted Medicaid expansion, per KFF's October 2026 status table. The Florida Department of Health keeps a women's health page listing state programs.
