Specialist endometriosis care in Michigan
Michigan has two of the country's fellowship sites in complex benign gynecology, the AAGL training track for surgeons who focus on endometriosis and similar conditions: the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Henry Ford in Detroit both appear on the AAGL program listing. Henry Ford Health's gynecology service lists endometriosis among the conditions it treats. Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine is one of the state's public medical schools, with campuses spread across the Lower Peninsula.
Geography matters more in Michigan than the number of programs suggests. Grand Rapids is about 110 air miles from Ann Arbor, so West Michigan patients face a cross-state drive for the Ann Arbor and Detroit programs. Marquette in the Upper Peninsula is about 350 air miles from Ann Arbor and about 240 from Milwaukee, so Wisconsin is the nearer direction for much of the Upper Peninsula.
Michigan adopted the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion, according to KFF. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is the state health agency.
