Specialist endometriosis care in North Carolina
North Carolina's three academic centers each run a named minimally invasive gynecologic surgery division. Duke's Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery in Durham lists endometriosis among its focus conditions. UNC's division in Chapel Hill reports performing more than 800 cases a year and trains fellows in vaginal, open, hysteroscopic, laparoscopic and robotic approaches; its page lists laparoscopic excision of endometriosis, including advanced stages. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist in Winston-Salem says its minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons provide surgical, interventional and medical management of complex endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain. Duke and UNC both appear on the AAGL's fellowship listing, and the UNC School of Medicine is public.
The programs cluster in the Piedmont. Charlotte is about 120 air miles from Durham. Asheville is about 210 air miles from Durham and about 130 from Winston-Salem, and Wilmington on the coast is about 140 from Durham, so mountain and coastal patients travel the farthest.
North Carolina adopted the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion, according to KFF. The North Carolina Division of Public Health publishes women's and children's health resources.
