Specialist endometriosis care in Mississippi

The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson describes itself as the state's only academic health science center. Its obstetrics and gynecology residency trains at Wiser Hospital for Women and Infants in Jackson and at affiliated hospitals in Tupelo (North Mississippi Medical Center, described as a 640-bed regional referral center) and Hattiesburg (Forrest General Hospital, a 545-bed Level II trauma center), so those are the hospitals where the state's own residents learn gynecologic surgery. The department lists separate contact lines for women's health, urogynecology, maternal-fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology and gynecologic oncology. No Mississippi hospital appears on the AAGL's list of fellowship sites in complex benign gynecology.

The Gulf Coast looks in two directions. Gulfport is about 150 air miles from Jackson but only about 70 from New Orleans, so for the coast the nearer academic hospitals are in Louisiana. Hattiesburg is about 85 air miles from Jackson.

Mississippi has not adopted the Affordable Care Act's Medicaid expansion, according to KFF. The Mississippi State Department of Health publishes maternal health resources through its Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies program.
