Specialist endometriosis care in California

California's academic gynecology is spread along the coast. UCLA Health runs a Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery service at its Westwood and Santa Monica sites in Los Angeles that uses laparoscopic and robotic approaches to evaluate and treat endometriosis, and UCSF Health in San Francisco runs a Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery service that works alongside the system's endometriosis and fibroid specialists. The AAGL Complex Benign Gynecology Fellowship listing includes three California sites: University of California, Los Angeles; Cedars Sinai; and University of California Riverside.

The Central Valley sits between those clusters. Fresno is about 160 air miles from San Francisco and about 200 from Los Angeles; Sacramento is about 80 from San Francisco and Riverside about 50 from Los Angeles. The March of Dimes 2026 report classifies 8.6 percent of California counties (5 of 58) as maternity care deserts, yet 17.2 percent of counties have no birthing facility, 45.5 percent of rural counties lack one, and 78,000 women live more than 30 minutes from a hospital with labor and delivery services. Women in desert counties travel 4.1 times longer than those in full-access counties.

California adopted Medicaid expansion, per KFF's October 2026 status table. The California Department of Public Health's Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division page lists state programs.
