Specialist endometriosis care in South Dakota
South Dakota's gynecologic surgery is centered in Sioux Falls. Sanford Health's gynecologic surgery service lists endometriosis among the conditions it treats surgically and removal of endometriosis among its procedures, using laparoscopic, robotic-assisted, hysteroscopic, vaginal and vNOTES techniques. The University of South Dakota's Sanford School of Medicine has a Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Avera Health's gynecology pages refused automated requests, so they are not cited here. We could not verify a separately named endometriosis, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery or pelvic pain program in the state; ask any gynecology practice how it handles complex or deep disease.
Distance is the defining fact. Rapid City is about 330 miles from Sioux Falls in a straight line, about 310 from Denver and about 280 from Billings, Montana, so western South Dakota is far from every surgical center; Aberdeen is about 160 miles from Sioux Falls.
South Dakota adopted the Affordable Care Act Medicaid expansion after voters approved it in November 2022, with coverage starting in July 2023, so adults with incomes up to 138 percent of the federal poverty level can qualify. America's Health Rankings' 2026 report puts 15.3 percent of South Dakota women aged 15 to 44 in a county with no hospital or birth center offering obstetric care and no obstetric clinicians. The South Dakota Department of Health is the state's public health agency; we could not verify a dedicated women's health page.
